Holding It In Is Holding You Back
Read time: 2 minutes
A lamppost changed a man’s Life.
Not in the way you’d think.
He didn’t crash into it. It didn’t fall on him. It didn’t even move.
But every night, after work, he would walk up to the same lamppost and talk.
For 30 minutes, he’d unload everything... his stress, his worries, his frustrations.
The lamppost never spoke back. It never gave advice. It never nodded in agreement.
And yet… somehow, he always walked away lighter.
Because here’s the thing:
The simple act of letting go—of speaking your thoughts instead of holding them in—is more powerful than most people realize.
99% of our current society walk through Life weighed down.
Not by their work. Not by their responsibilities. Not even by their problems.
But by the mental weight of unspoken thoughts—the things they never express, the concerns they never release, the emotions they never process.
And that weight? It’s slowing you down more than you realize.
I see this with clients all the time.
People who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or directionless.
Not because they don’t have answers, but because their minds are so cluttered with unprocessed thoughts that they can’t even see the next step clearly.
That’s why I told one of my clients—let’s call her Cindy—about the lamppost method.
Instead of overthinking, instead of carrying the weight of her emotions alone, I told her:
"Talk it out. Speak your thoughts into a voice memo. Write them down. Tell a friend. Even if no one responds, you’ll feel the difference."
She started doing it. And within a few days, she told me:
"It’s crazy. I didn’t realize how much was stuck in my head until I started getting it out."
Because that’s the truth—the thoughts you don’t express don’t just sit there. They pile up.
They cloud your judgment.
They create stories that aren’t even real.
They make small things feel overwhelming.
Letting Go Isn’t Weak—It’s How You Move Forward”
Some people resist this.
They think they need to “tough it out.”
That talking about things is pointless if no one has a solution.
But clarity isn’t about having the perfect answer.
It’s about creating space in your mind—so you can see what actually matters.
The most successful people in the world—whether they’re entrepreneurs, artists, or athletes—don’t hold everything in.
They journal. They record voice memos. They talk things out with coaches, mentors, or even just themselves.
Not because they need someone to fix their problems.
But because they know that when the weight is gone, movement becomes effortless.
Your Challenge: Try It for One Week
This week, try the lamppost method for yourself.
Speak your thoughts out loud on a walk.
Record a voice memo, even if you never play it back.
Write freely in a journal—without trying to make it perfect.
And notice what happens.
You might not get answers right away. But I guarantee—you’ll feel lighter. Clearer. More free.
And that feeling?
That’s what makes everything else in Life easier.
Much Love,
Julian
